Dual Sim text / iMessage bug

Hi

I have an Iphone XS, with dual sim. A Business sim (esim) and a Personal sim (physical) both on the same network. iMessage is linked to my Personal number and is enabled (I can send iMessages to most friends with no problems)

For some reason, while texting a friend my the number changed from personal to business. It sent a normal text to him.

I then tried to send him an iMessage but it wouldn't let me. I received the error "iMessage needs to be enabled to send this message".

I then deleted all the messages between us. I tried to iMessage him again but still got the same message and I also could not exit the screen. I had to close the message application down to be able to get back into it.

It seems that once you have sent someone a 'normal' text, you cannot then send an iMessage to that person using the other sim.

Is this something you are aware of and is a fix coming?

Many Thanks

Cannot exit this screen

Greetings, chudleigh2!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you're having an issue sending Messages to a specific contact. I suggest checking out this article to Set up Messages on iPhone and sign out of Messages. Then, Restart your iPhone and sign back into Messages to see if you're able to send Messages.

Let me know the results and have a wonderful day!
