News widget suddenly reading in French when my Language and Region is set to English and Canada

This was an old question from last year with no replies in a while. I just ran into this problem today. The odd thing was I started reading an article picked from my news widget. All the headlines were in English. After finishing the article I went back to the widget and noticed 1 headline was in French. It was only 1 headline so I ignored it and picked another headline. Finished it, went back to news widget, now 3 out of the five headlines are displayed in French. I swipe out of widgets and swipe back to open the widgets, now all headlines are French! I didn’t try the suggestion of erasing the app and re-installing as it seems that solution didn’t work for anyone else in the older post I read from 2019.

Anyone else noticing this? Wondering if the recent iOS update may be the culprit. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

tdarren2015,

We appreciate your effort. Let's go ahead and temporarily change the preferred language for the News app. To perform this step, please go to Settings > News > Preferred Language. You can select another language in the section that says, "Other Languages" and restart your iPhone. From there, please set the default language back to, English.

Please let us know if that help.

Kind regards.

Howdy tdarren2015,

Thanks for taking the time to reach out in Apple Support Communities. I understand the News widget is displaying an incorrect language.

It's important to rely on using widgets, to immediately access your favorite apps. I'll be happy to help.

To help troubleshoot this behavior, I recommend to remove the News widget on your iPhone and to re-add it. From there, see if the language in the News app continues to change. For the proper steps, please follow the section in this article that says, "Add or remove widgets in the Today View": Use widgets on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Now if that doesn't help, I recommend to follow steps one through four in this article: If an app unexpectedly quits, stops responding, or won’t open These steps are relevant to the issue you're experiencing and can help.

We look forward to hearing an update on the results.

Best regards.

I tried taking the app off the Today View and adding it back again. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the app and now it seems that only the headlines in the “trending” section are showing up in French. All other headlines are in English.

I also went through the list of troubleshooting options that was provided. None of those options changed the behavior of the app.
