ipad video call while multitasking

Hello,

I recently noticed that, other than when using FaceTime, every time I use a video call app (tested with Skype, Hangouts, Viber and Zoom) to video chat and I open another app in split view (multitasking) the outgoing video stops.

It looks like the only way to video call and at the same time maybe keep notes in a word document is using FaceTime and FaceTime only. Is that the case? That sounds way too restrictive.

Thank you in advance

iPad, iPadOS 13

Most reputable video calling Apps, such as FaceTime, are designed to continue running in the background whilst you open another App. Consider that your iPad screen is relatively small - and displaying a full video conference screen simultaneously with another App isn’t a viable proposition.

In general, whilst Video Calling Apps do not support Split View, some are able to display incoming video in a Picture in Picture window while you access and use another App.

In summary, consider using your multitasking features in a more appropriate way when video calling. Using FaceTime as an example, you can participate in a video call - and use most other Apps on your iPad at the same time - but you can’t show large screen incoming video whilst doing so.

I hope this clarification and insight is helpful.
