IPhone charging

When I plug my IPhone 8 into my MacBook Air in order to charge it the phone makes an intermittent beep about every 2 seconds. Any idea why it does this? I can't leave it plugged into the computer because it will continuously beep. It obviously stops when I turn the phone off but prefer to have it on while it's charging. Appreciate any help.
