Can i get a prepaid DATA card for a WiFi device?

Hi

i just purchased a WiFi dongle, it looks like this..

i got a SIM card and an SD card for it , now i need a data plan for it.

Didn’t know if I have to purchase a plan from my carrier, or if i could just get a prepaid SIM card.? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! In advance.
