can I get a send button on a new message?

I have noticed that I only get a send button on a message when I am responding to an email. As soon as I store it in my draft folder or when I create a new message, there is not send button. Have I turned it off by accident - or did I just not notice this before? And how do I get it back!?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Is there a recipient in the message? I think that's the minimum for a Send button to activate.

No, you still get the button with an empty new message.

Start a new message, control-click on the toolbar, choose 'Customize Toolbar' and drag the 'send' button to it.

Hi Roger,
thanks for the quick response. I just opened a new messsage and I am not sure what you mean with clicking on the toolbar as the message does not have one. Or are you talking about the Mail Toolbar at the top of the screen? Sorry for being so ignorant, I am pretty new to my Mac!

Your whole problem may be that your Toolbar is Hidden. Click on View in the menubar after opening a New Message window, and click on Show Toolbar.

You can also click on the white pill-shaped button at the top right of the New Message window to do the same thing.

That would explain how it could have been different for a Reply vs a New Message. About the only way, I think, the Toolbar is the same one in either case.
