Someone else using my iCloud Mail account

Quite accidentally, I found my iCloud Mail account today. I have never used it before. However, on looking at the emails in the Inbox, someone called Linda has been using my iCloud address and ordering goods online. How could this happen and how can I prevent further unauthorised use of my iCloud Mail account please?

You should definitely set up two-factor authentication to help ensure you are the only one with access. You can edit your information and turn on 2FA by logging into your AppleID at: https://appleid.apple.com

Here is a support article with more info about 2FA: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204915

If you are locked out of your Apple ID account you can go to https://iforgot.apple.com

This will provide you with the recovery steps you put in place for this situation.

See these security-related documents, especially the first two for now.

If you think your Apple ID has been compromised https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204145. From the link, among other things, Change your Apple ID password and choose a strong password.

And, if you can, Check your Apple ID device list (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT205064and remove any device that shouldn't be signed in using the steps in the link.

If there are none that shouldn’t be signed in, then you should not have a problem at this point. But, if an unauthorized device is signed in, Change your Apple ID password https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201355
