Unable to connect iPod to MacBook Air

Hi,

I am unable to connect my wife's iPod to iTunes on my MacBook Air. Please note we both have different Apple Id's. However I am able to connect my iPhone to iTunes on my Mac. I have tried trouble shooting which is saw in some earlier Apple community forums. But now able to. When I plug in my USB cord the iPod is charging but nothing else is detected. The iPod is only 6 months old. Appreciate your help..
