Anyway to see open apps if they won’t swipe up from bottom of screen? I tried restart, that didn’t work....I am not techie so I need simple help!

I cannot get my apps to swipe up so I can erase all he open ones. I tried from all 4 screen sides, nothing. I can swipe to home screen and my control center comes down. Just can’t get screen with open apps so I can swipe them up and gone
