Does Photos facial recognition work for imported scanned pictures?

I have scanned old pictures (JPEG, 600 dpi) and imported them into photos.

However, facial recognition doesn't seem to work?

Therefore I am going manually through the imported pictures and adding names to faces ..... a very tedious process.....

Can Photos do this automatically with scanned imported pictures?

Yes, it should do but you have to give it time, and you have to leave Photos running so it continues to work on it.

To leave Photos working on scanning, either: A) Quit Photos but leave the computer on and working (i.e prevent it sleeping) or: B) Leave Photos running in the background with another app in the foreground while the computer is on and working (i.e prevent it sleeping). I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro and they give different instructions for letting Photos finish working on the 'People' Album - I have no idea why!
