Can I restore an iphone 8 data to an iphone 5? Iphone 8 has latest software version. Iphone 5 is IOS 10.3.4 and won't accept newer software updates. I want to save the data on the iphone 8, which is from a deceased user, but want to use the iphone after that for my own and restore it. I would like to keep the deceased person's data on the old iphone 5, such as contacts and text messages.

No, you cannot restore a backup to a device with an older version. You can, however, sync most of the data on the phone to iCloud (Settings/[user name]/iCloud - turn on things to sync) then sync the iPhone 5 to iCloud.
