I can't restore my backup from iPhone 8 to iPhone X

I have a stored backup on my iMac 2014. I have a new iPhone X that I traded for a iPhone 8. I have the iMac and the iPhone X now. However, whenever I try to restore the backup, it says that I need to update the phone to the newest version. I updated both the iMac and iPhone X. It still has that error. What can I do to get my backup? Is there a way to drag the file to the X?

Hello SauLegitemat,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

It appears you are unable to restore your backup of your iPhone X via you iMac, correct? I'm here to help you take a look in to that!

When restoring from a back up the iOS versions on the iPhone has to be equal to or newer than the previous device. Here are couple articles on steps to follow help resolve this issue:

Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

If you see an error in Finder or iTunes on your computer

Hopefully this helps!

Cheers!
