When connected to computer and browsing photos and video clips, the video does not play. Moreover there is no provision for background music when playing a slideshow, This makes the slideshow boring.

To show a slideshow with audio, you may have to AirPlay Screen Mirror from a Mac, or export the complete slideshow as movie first.

This was not the case in the earlier version of Apple TV. Need to inform Apple developers I think.
