I forgot my Iphone password - tried reset but it states I have to install the latest version of Itunes .. but can't get into phone to do it

Where does it tell you to install the latest version? If you need to restore your phone then your phone needs to be connected to a computer with iTunes on it through which you can install the latest iOS version.
