While the major fan vent is in the back, it is important that air can circulate under the laptop. This is because the bottom side of the laptop can get hot, and the space between the laptop and the (hard) surface helps release that heat. A soft, squishy surface will just trap it and push it right back up into the computer.
And a computer with only one fan vent needs all the help it can get.

I tried what you suggested and it worked so well.....I had the Mac in a protective sleeve so that must have been smothering the underneath of the computer, since I took the computer out of the sleeve everything is fine,,,,,,Many thanks
Is it running hot?
Have you blown the dust out of the vents?
it's not running hot, just making a irritating noise constantly, where exactly are the vents and I'll try that, ,,,,,,,thanks
