MobileProtect is a TOTAL waste of money. I'm so happy I discovered SquareTrade instead of wasting my money on that overpriced nonsense AT&T is pushing. They're giving away free policies here. Bought my policy yesterday and still can cash it in for a refund if I win!

I ended up getting my phone and insurance from Best Buy. It's $14 per month and it covers glass breakage and water damage. The best part is they will replace it with a new unit, not a reconditioned one.

I've had apple care on previous phones but only ever needed the battery replaced. Never had the glass break or water damage.

Wildouble, sorry you feel that way. MobileProtect provides a more comprehensive coverage plan than any other offering, protecting iPhone users in the event of loss, theft, breakage, damage and out of warranty issues. According to industry data, loss and theft comprise nearly 50% of claims. When directly compared to our competitors, you will find that only MobileProtect offers next-day delivery of a replacement phone, more extensive coverage, convenient online claims process and up to 2 claims within 12 months starting with your first claim. This plan really maximizes your protection needs for any kind of situation you and your iPhone may face. Learn more at mymobileprotect.com

There are much better and much cheaper (50% cheaper) options than what AT&T and Best Buy offer. I was about to buy a W. Ave group policy but will wait to see if I win the SquareTrade policy first.

This does a pretty good job of explaining why NOT to buy those overpriced policies from AT&T and Best Buy:

Forgot to ask: can you cancel your Best Buy policy at any time? If so, I'd look to do so and go with one of those other options.

Have you asked your insurance agent. Allstate has a rider to homeowners insurance that covers the phone against loss or damage for $12/year.

The best insurance for your iPhone is to keep in in it's box and lock it in your wall safe. Don't use it. Don't take it out anywhere. Don't tell anyone you have a wall safe. It'll be right as rain.

Heh, I'm certainly not advocating that. But considering that a nasty drop or loss/theft isn't covered by warranty -- avoiding a $500 or $600 replacement charge by spending $5 or $6 a month on insurance ain't exactly a crazy idea.

That was the original recommendation from the OP.
