Broken Apple Watch screen

If I buy an apple care policy for my Apple Watch does that cover it if it’s pre-existing or do I need to have the AppleCare before the incident

AppleCare can only be purchased within 60 days of the original purchase. If your watch is over 60 days old, you have to pay for any repairs. Also, AppleCare will not for a pre-existing condition such as a broken screen.
