FaceTime audio issue
Why is it that when I FaceTime someone I can only hear them when I mute my own mic?

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If I understand correctly, you are unable to hear people on a FaceTime call with your iPhone unless you mute your microphone. To help with this, please follow the steps in the section titled "If you have connection or sound quality issues with FaceTime" in this Apple resource and also test with different microphones:
If you can't make a FaceTime call on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
