a thing just popped up on my phone saying
“a virus has been detected on your phone. follow the instructions, you have 1 minute and 30 seconds to follow the instruction or else all your personal files will be exposed”.
is this real? and if so, what do i do?

No, it's not. Any message warning of malware in a web browser will only be legitimate if you just manually uploaded a file there, or are running Windows and used a scanner.
