Upgraded 500GB HDD TO 1TB SSD

I purchased a brand new crucial SSD with 1 TB. I remove the 500 GB HDD, but after installation my computer shows one terabyte installed but free space 329 gigs of 499.98 GB. Why is it not showing 999.98 gigs?

Unless you have a bad or counterfeit SSD, then you will need to erase the whole physical drive as GUID partition and APFS (top option). To be able to erase the physical drive you will need to click on "View" within Disk Utility and select "Show All Devices" before the physical drive will appear in the left pane of Disk Utility.

If you have any important data on the drive, then make sure to back it up first.

This usually means you have a bad drive or cable connection (any connected/installed drive could be the problem). The installer is trying to located any possible destinations for the install and the system is hanging because a drive is most likely not responding properly.

Could also be an installer issue as well (USB stick is bad or disconnected or you lost your Internet connection for a moment if booted into Recovery Mode).
