My iMac runs macOS 10.15.5. I recently bought a Canoscanner9950F but am unable to test it because I damaged the adapter cable while unpacking. While the scanner be recognised by image capture when my new adapter arrives?

How old is this scanner, from the Canon Support website the last drivers that Canon supplied for this scanner

were for Mac OS X Snow Leopard, which was released in 2009.

Click on the link below and use the operating system selector to see for yourself.

Have you given us the correct model number of this scanner, any reviews I can see for this scanner are from between 2004 and 2006. If it is a Canoscan 9950F it is highly doubtful it will work in macOS Catalina.

Whether it is future proof or not is up to the manufacturers of the product and the requirements of macOS's to come.

If you buy a scanner that definitely works with Catalina, then it will work with Catalina for as long as the scanner or

the mac works. But if you decide to upgrade your macs operating system then it is up to the scanners manufacturers to

update the drivers so it will continue to function in the newer OS's.

Having said that the manufacturer is under no obligation to keep providing drivers for a particular model of scanner or

other hardware forever, they are in the business of selling products so they eventually obsolete their product so they can

see newer hardware..
