I'm having the same problem tightened the screw and the the sliver clip is still attached to the EMI shield also. i am missing a screw on the EMI shield but not the top one where the wifi attena is. just trying to see what else it could be and I'm way outside of my warranty. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Absolutely fantastic post thank you - my screw wasn't even particularly loose but I tightened it anyway and my wifi is 10x better now. Thanks again

Thank you, this solved my wifi problem too. IPhones have problems that apple should avoid in the newer versions.

I found a fix for my iphone 4 but it might not relate to eveyone. I recently took my iphone 4 to have its screen replaced after dropping it. The wifi reception after I received the phone back was terrible, very poor router hookup and it was impossible to connect (or even find) a hotspot. Prior to the repair the wifi was very strong. I took the phone back to the shop and they told me some rubbish that it was ios7 that was the issue. I have two similar iphones one wifi worked and the other didn't so I took the back cases of both and swapped the wifi metal piece (sits next to the camera - 5 screws) over to the bad phone. Turned it on and the wifi was excellent. After looking at both wifi pieces I discovered that the repair man had put the wifi piece back but had left off a very small piece of metal which sits on the top middle screw, the longest screw by far. This piece sits under the wifi piece as you look at it. After googling I found that this top srew is essential for a strong wifi connection but the small piece of metal is just as vital. Obviously this is a long shot for most but it did fix my problem.

    Hello Shaize,

I am in Lebanon. Ive been hearing stories about how people send their pc's or iphones to fix and their personal information gets leaked.. like everywhere (even if it is permanently deleted.) Anyway, what I would like to know is do how far do I have to unscrew my iphone to resolve my poor wifi and bettery drain issue?

P.S. I read all these comment so i feel motivated to resolve my problem myself.

    Thank you

    Shirley

Well the screw that holds the clip is snug and the antenna clip is in place and making good contact with the motherboard. I STILL have very weak wifi and have to be within 10 feet of my router. I have taken the shield off just to make sure there is nothing between the shield and motherboard connection, cleaned the hold down screw, brushed the motherboard contact adjusted the small clip to ensure it is making good contact, to no avail. Still poor wifi. It got weak all of a sudden, not over time. I consistently use three different wifi routers at my job and home so it isn't the routers. Even as a known issue, Apple wants to "repair" it for $149!  If everyone is having this problem they should change their name from Apple to Lemon because that seems to be what everyone here got!

Do I have to remove the battery or do anything else besides tighten the top midle screw once I've taken the back off of the phone?
