Can I use the 2nd gen case to charge my 1st gen AirPods?

If I have the 1st gen AirPods and lost my case can I use the 2nd gen case to charge my 1st gen AirPods

I'm pretty sure 1st and 2nd generation cases can be used interchangeably, though only the second gen. supports wireless charging.
