imac disk contunually running

Hello all -

I have an iMac running High Sierra 10.13.6 with 500 GB Disk, 4 GB Memory, and a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor. The computer is running slow. I can hear the disk continually running, even while I'm sitting there doing nothing with whatever app I'm running. I'm assuming the two are related. Any guesses what the disk is doing? Any recommendations for clean-up programs? (My disk is less than half full, so I don't think lack of disk space is a problem.)

Thanks in advance for any thoughts -

4 GB is not enough for anything anymore, but a report from this Free App may give us more info as to the cause...

Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…

Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...

Hello BDAqua -

Sorry to be so long in replying. Your comment about 4G not being good enough anymore finally got me off my butt and I replaced the 4G with 16G. That made all the difference in the world. The computer runs at computer speed and I haven't heard my disk running wild since. If it hadn't been for your comment, I never would have figured that was a problem.

Thanks again -
