Apple Mail Opens Randomly

Apple mail will open in split screen randomly throughout the day. I use Gmail with Apple Mail closed. I know this issue is pandemic - and it's been plaguing Apple users for some time - but there does not seem to be a common, known solution. Is that correct? If no, can you point me to the best known solution?
