Xserve RAID Storage - Can't Recognize Array

I'm trying to pull old information off an Xserve RAID system.

I'm running RAID Admin v1.5.2b3 on macOS Server 10.6.8 on a late 2006 Xserve. I can't get the existing arrays to mount. I don't see any issues with the Fiber Channel. Disk Utility see the RAIDs; (1) RAID 5 and (1) RAID 1. All drives are green.

Any suggestions?

Some suggestions in the form of questions:

What happens when you try to mount the volumes using Disk Utility? Can you access the volumes using Terminal? Can I assume RAID Admin reports no issues with the RAID sets? EG: are the RAID sets reported correctly? IE: RAID 5 etc? Do you have access to software such as Disk Warrior?

You may be looking at disaster recovery in which case do you have a back-up? Assuming no back-up do you have any 3rd-party data recovery software? Best to prepare the ground now just in case the worst-case scenario has happened and you've lost your data. This assumes the data on the RAID is vital to whatever business you're in?

I'm unable to mount the volumes using Disk Utility. The feature is greyed out. And RAID Admin reports no issues with the RAID set after a 13-hour verification process on the old RAID 5, which just completed. Although I just decided to start fresh. I'm creating two new arrays. RAID Admin is in the process of initializing.

However, why does this initializing process take sooo long creating the new array? I'm creating a RAID 0 on the first set.

Could it be bad hardware or firmware? I see no fault notifications or orange / red indicator lights.

13 hours is not long. I've known it take 24 hours or more. You should be able to use the volume whilst creating the RAID set although performance will be impaired. In practice that's not a problem depending on what you're using the storage for.

Just wondering if you followed the instructions outlined in the RAID Admin guide?

Did you select the "Use RAID Now Background Initialization" option?
