As me ntioned the only way it gets replaced under warranty, is if whatever is wrong with it can be attributable to a manufacturing defect.

If the screen is cracked, you got it wet, or some other damage occurred, then you will need to pay for the replacement.

Apple does not replace any device unless it has been proven to be defective.

The warranty period is one year from the purchase date.
