Automatically Backing up an iPhone using WiFI

Using iTunes (in Mojave) I set-up my iPhone to backup to my iMac over WiFi. For a while this seemed to backup fairly regularly. This evening I looked and saw that the phone had not been backed up in a week. I regularly go out of the house, but don't connect the phone to other WiFi networks when out usually. Any idea why the automatic backups stopped working? Thanks!

Hey there andyf,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you’re having issues backing up your iPhone to iTunes over Wi-Fi. We’ll be happy to help with this.

You should be able to sync your iPhone over Wi-Fi which will back it up if you have the option to back up to iTunes enabled. Take a look at the requirements under “Sync your device over Wi-Fi” and see if this helps at all:

Sync iTunes content on Mac with devices on Wi-Fi

If this doesn’t work, manually back your device up once and then see if the issue is resolved:

Back up your iOS device in iTunes on Mac

We hope this helps.

Take care.
