The term is refurbished.

You'll get a phone that has a new battery, new screen, new case but may contain previously used parts inside. They come with a warranty and are actually less risky than a production device in that they were individually tested before shipping, whereas not every production device is.

That means the device was diagnosed as defective or damaged and unrepairable and was replaced by Apple, but not returned to them as required or was reported lost or stolen in transit or from stock.

No support is available for that device.
