Apple TV freezes downloading latest update

The Apple TV (2nd generation) has seen its latest software update with version 6.2.1 in September 2014. Later software versions are not available for this model. This model has been classified as technically obsolete, and will not receive any further updates or support.

If the software is still available to users on Apple’s servers, then you can restore the Apple TV through a computer, as described on Restore your Apple TV - Apple Support. The Apple TV (2nd generation) does not need to be powered during restore through a computer. Make sure that you use a Micro-USB cable that supports data transfer. You can restore through iTunes (or in Finder if your Mac runs Catalina).

Well you can unplug it for a few minutes, if after plugging it back in you still have the same problem then you can try to restore it to factory settings Apple TV Reset or restore your Apple TV to its factory settings. If that still does not work, please remember it is over 8 years old, obsolete and may be time to be replaced.
