I don't have a snow leopard disc but I do have a disk image that i can write to a flash drive. I tried this before but when getting into the boot menu it doesnt show up. Did I do something wrong in the process or does this mac not support booting from usb?

Not likely, you need SL or the original media that shipped with the computer.
Did you Restore the DMG to the Flash Drive?
