“I was wondering whether the new MacBook Air have any protections from debris entering the laptop? Let's say something like eraser dust on the desk. Is the MacBook Air fan powerful enough to suck these debris in? If so, do the vents have any filter layer to prevent debris entering?[...]”

A Few Thoughts:
A. About Fan Usage:
Debris is mean to be blown out, not sucked in, by usage of the fans.
B. If Sent In for Service, Include Notes:
If you send this in for service, ask the techs to empty debris from underneath the keyboard. Include it in handwriting on a sheet of paper, when sending it in through send-in service. They’ve always cleaned it out for me.
C. But, do not Use a Keyboard Cover:
Keyboard covers may overheat your LogicBoard, causing moisture to gather. So, do not use them. View this Post: Macbook pro won’t charge - Apple Support Community
