Does MacBook Air 2019 or 2020 have protections around its vents?

Hi all,

I was wondering whether the new MacBook Air have any protections from debris entering the laptop? Let's say something like eraser dust on the desk. Is the MacBook Air fan powerful enough to suck these debris in? If so, do the vents have any filter layer to prevent debris entering?

Thanks so much for your help!

I have both (2019 and 2020) MacBook Airs in the family. There are vents in the back of the MacBook Air where the display meets the base. There is only one fan inside. NOTE that the fan blows air out and does NOT suck air in. Dust particles can still enter inside the MacBook Air's case from several other openings (Ports, Keyboard etc).

Can you clarify why this is a big concern for you?

A Few Thoughts:

A. About Fan Usage:

Debris is mean to be blown out, not sucked in, by usage of the fans.

B. If Sent In for Service, Include Notes:

If you send this in for service, ask the techs to empty debris from underneath the keyboard. Include it in handwriting on a sheet of paper, when sending it in through send-in service. They’ve always cleaned it out for me.

C. But, do not Use a Keyboard Cover:

Keyboard covers may overheat your LogicBoard, causing moisture to gather. So, do not use them. View this Post: Macbook pro won’t charge - Apple Support Community
