How to sync iPhone x with itunes using OX 10.10.5 (Yosemite)

Hello,

I am running OS 10.10.5 which I cannot upgrade from. I produce a lot music and media and have equipment that is not compatible with any higher OS.

My iPhone X now calls for a higher version of OS when I try to sync it with itunes (v 12.8.1.3). It asks for OS 10.11.4 or later.

Is there anyway I can sync my iphone to itunes with this current configuration that anyone knows of please? Possibly downgrading my version of itunes? Not sure what version I should use in which case so any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

MacBook Pro 13″, OS X 10.10

For iOS 12 or later you need iTunes 12.8.0.150 or better running on OS X 10.11.4 or better. See How to upgrade to OS X El Capitan - Apple Support if required. iOS 13 likely requires iTunes 12.8.2.3 or better.

Assuming a suitable version of iTunes is in place then in Finder use the menu item Go > Go to Folder..., copy the following text, paste it into the dialog box and press enter:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/MobileDevice.framework/Versions/Current/Resources

Unlock your device and connect it to USB. Double click on MobileDeviceUpdater in the folder that has opened. It should notify you of a software update. Install it and iTunes should hopefully recognize your device.

Hello 7777177777,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities. From you post, you want to be able to sync your iPhone X with iTunes. We'll explain.

If you've updated your iPhone to the latest version of iOS, that will require the latest version of iTunes in order to be compatible, which would require a later version of macOS.

The only way to make it compatible would be to update iTunes to a compatible version or use a different computer that has a more recent version of iTunes: Update to the latest version of iTunes

Have a great day.

Thanks for this.

I have tried using my wife’s iTunes which is more recent and although it recognises the phone it won’t let me add songs to the phone.. very frustrating.. could anyone shed some light on why this could be please?

i have also been able to airdrop songs from my Mac but on my phone it only gives me an option to open them in files or email/WhatsApp etc.. which is really not very helpful..

Anyone know why I can’t airdrop songs to iTunes? Seems like a logical step.

All I want to do is add one song to my iTunes Player on my iPhone X and it is impossible even with two macs in the house..

Thanks very much

What ever happened to being able to connect your device to your Mac via usb cable and the synching application in iTunes would launch? I used to be able to do that and select what items to transfer between devices, etc? Makes no sense to me whatsoever that I cannot manipulate and transfer my personal music from one device to another but it automatically does it for purchased items. I've owned this other stuff for years!
