Switching to android/ deleting iCloud backup

Basically I’m switching to android in the next few days and was wondering what I did with my iCloud backup or account once I’ve transferred everything to my new phone.

I currently pay for extra space on iCloud.

or do I keep it and just leave it?

To be clear, you won't be able to restore your iCloud backup to your Android.

You will have to download the iOS content you want to a neutral location and then transfer it to your Android.

Apple offers an Android > iOS app, but not the reverse. You may want to check the Google Play store for something similar.

There's nothing stopping you from accessing your icloud account from an Android device or even on a computer (Mac or PC).

You can access your email from the Mail app on Android: Mail server settings for iCloud email clients - Apple Support

You can access iCloud Drive: https://www.androidauthority.com/how-to-use-icloud-for-android-1080681/

However as said, you cannot restore an iCloud backup to an Android device.

Google does offer a way to transfer data from iOS to an Android device, and the manufacturer of your device may have some other tool: https://www.android.com/intl/en_us/switch/

Samsung for instance offers Smart Switch: https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00061001/

Outside of that, you can cancel iCloud at any time from a Windows computer or Mac: Downgrade your iCloud storage - Apple Support
