macOS Catalina - Change screenshot saving location

I intend to take a good load of screenshots but wanna store them inside a USB drive. I have changed the saving location by going to Screenshot > Options > Choose Location > My desired location > Choose. Every time I try to do a screenshot afterwards a message pops up with the following text in it "Your screenshot can't be saved" and under it "Cannot write file to intended destination".

I'm running macOS Catalina (10.15.4) on a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014)

Hello GioGio07,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities! We understand that when saving screenshots on your Mac, you see an error message. You've come to the right place for help.

To help further isolate potential causes for this behavior, see if this continues to be an issue when you restart your Mac in safe mode:

Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac

If you're able to save screenshots without issue, the next step would be to rule out incompatible login items:

If your Mac has a blue screen or other startup problems

Specifically, check out the section labeled “Test your login items”

Also, testing in another user account can help determine if this may be user or account related settings causing this issue. Here's how you can create a new user for testing:

Keep us posted with the results.

Best Regards.
