ASL Logs have strange entries - have I been hacked

My 17" early 2011 MBP on Mac OS X 10.12.6 was slow to startup tonight and an accounting program I normally use was also slow to boot up. So I happened to look at my Log files and found some unusual entries. See below.

There a logs for 7/6/2020, and 7/8/2020 and they're all just like this one from 7/7/2020. Some 1100+ log messages. My apple mail keeps unexpectedly quitting when I delete trashed or junk emails, too.

The logs don't seem to show up if I turn off Wi-Fi and restart.

Have I been hacked? Please help.

Thanks in advance,

Granddaie

I haven't seen that error since the switch from PPC to Intel, I've lost the notes on which file needed deliting, but...

Jetsam is a system that monitors memory use in OSX and iOS. It keeps a list of processes on the device, to monitor for situations where a device is running out of free RAM and look for things to kill to free up RAM. It also watches for processes that are using too much RAM; breaching a "high water mark" level.

This error message is because the code is shared between OSX and iOS but the _DirtyJetsamMemoryLimit key is only available on iOS.

Any ideas as to a cause? I also have a 15" MBP with TouchBar also running OS X 10.12.6 and it's ASL log looks similar. I haven't checked any of my other MBP's. I haven't seen the "DirtyJetsaMemoryLimit" entry on the 15".

Granddaie

ps: The 15" MBP TouchBar ASL log also has the "DirtyJetsamMemoryLimit" entry. It's for today 7/9/2020. I'll check my other MBP's (all running 10.12.6) to see if they have same issues and update this post.

Right, it was an issue back in the day, but I get them...

BDAqua,

During my trying to see if I could correct the ASL logs I opened disk utility to try to do a 'check and repair disk permissions' but was unable to do it. Back in the day when we were issued a dvd disk with Mac OS on it you booted that and then performed those types of functions. With the current dvd-less systems how do I initiate a repair disk permissions? Seems like I remember holding certain keys as you booted up. Something about option-c or command-c or something like that to invoke the system to find the original disk image. You could also clean up free space, over-write the free space, and also do something that wasn't formatting but it put files sort of in order.

Can you help with that, also?
