Duplicate harddrives
how do I remove duplicate hard drives from my iMac with OS X Catalina. every time I reinstall I get another duplication of my hard drive

you have been reinstalling on top rather than erasing first. You probably have more than one Data partition.
You will have to reinstall using the Erase/reformat option and recover data from backup
