M-Audio Interface not synced with Logic

Hi I just purchased a M-Audio Fast Track interface so I could plug my microphone into it and record vocals. Just so you know, the interface is connected to the mac with a USB cable. However, I'm not sure how to find the MIDI device, do I select an Audio or Software Instrument Track? and record it. I'm very new to Logic so detailed instructions would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi there,

I don't quite understand your question I'm afraid.

You mention that you are looking for a midi device yet you just want to record vocals?

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I would guess that you are not looking for a midi device but rather how to select the audio device to record vocals. Your fast track device is not a midi device from what I can tell from the m-audio website.

1. Be sure that you have installed the latest drivers for the device.
2. Go to Preferences: Devices:
From there you can select your Fast Track. Select it both for input and output and then click 'Apply Changes' in the bottom right.
Then go back to the arrange window. Once you have a mic plugged in. click on an audio track, set the input to 1 and that should be it. (check the main volume is low to avoid feedback first!) and you may or may not need phantom power though be careful to check what kind of mic you have and whether or not it needs it.

I hope that helps. If you are looking for a midi input device however, You need a midi keyboard, most of them these days come with usb connection which requires no drivers.
Best regards,

Felix

Hi, am using the same unit. I had the same problem at first with M-audio fast track pro, but then the solution was simply to turn on the 48V Phantom Power switch at the back. make sure your mic is plugged in at either input 1 or 2, with INS button depressed. Create AUDIO track in your Logic software arrange window, and in the audio track you create, choose either INPUT 1 or 2 (depending where you plugged your mic) and make sure you also press the I and R button (input monitoring and record button) in the track area .. that should work already.. Hope it helps..

when I look under Preferences I don't see where it says devices

You are correct. You were told to "Go to Preferences: Devices:", but in the main Logic menu, when you look under Preferences, there is no menu item called Devices.

In Logic, you need to select this menu: Logic Pro > Preferences > Audio. This will open the window you need. It looks something like this:

User uploaded file

I highlighted the menus you need to find. That's where you select your M-Audio device.

There might be some other things you need to do, but let's start with this. Let us know how you make out.
