Can I use an external SSD for MacOS in MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017)

My System configurations are as follow MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017) 1.8 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 125 GB SSD Harddisk

I am thinking to purchase an external SSD "SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 500GB Up to 550MB/s" for macOS. I will boot my mac from this external SSD only. My question is "SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD 500GB Up to 550MB/s" is suitable and compatible to work with this mac to load OS without any difficulty or issue? Thanks!

Hey A_mac_ios,

If we understand correctly, you want to know if an external SSD will work with the MacBook Air. We would recommend you use this article for more information. I'd like to specifically call out this section/information.

"Works with Windows and Mac, USB-C or USB-A

Designed to work with both Windows and Mac, the SanDisk Extreme® Portable SSD is equipped with a USB 3.1 Type-C connector and also includes a USB Type-C to Type-C cable and a Type-C to Type-A adapter, meaning it will work with the PCs and Macs of today, tomorrow and yesterday."
