I am talking with someone on the phone that is telling us we have to pay for an Apple security card around $100. They're asking me to go buy it at the grocery store and they will credit me. Is this legit?

Apple will never call you and ask for payment, let alone with a gift-card. Gift-cards are virtually untraceable and once you have handed over the code you will never get your money back.

The number might be an Apple number but this is a process called spoofing. It is possible for scammers to change their number which appears to you and make it look like Apple called you. This is a scam.
