Hi I have tried resetting iPod touch 5th gen but unsuccessful, please help

Hello, I have forgotten the passcode for my iPod touch 5th gen and cannot reset it. I have never connected it to my Mac with iTunes so therefore cannot reset in this manner either, can someone advise how to reset it completely so I can pass it on to my son to use?
