ipad is disabled

My IPad is disabled and is telling me to log into ITunes. Is there another way to fix this? I have an Android phone.

If your iPad is disabled, or you have forgotten your iPad passcode, you’ll need to follow this process:

You’ll need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS). Use of a PC/Mac cannot be avoided, but the computer doesn’t have to be yours. Perhaps a friend or family member may be able to assist - otherwise, if the Apple Stores have reopened in your region, then the staff at the Genius Bar will be able to help.


You’ll also need your AppleID and associated password. If these have also been forgotten, they can be recovered here:

To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to one of the following:

  • Your primary email address mailbox that corresponds with your AppleID
  • Any of the secondary/recovery email addresses that should be configured for your AppleID account
  • Any of the trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or Cellular/Mobile) that are associated with your AppleID


Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.

When you recover access to your credentials, you would be well advised to log-in to your AppleID account from a web browser - and verify/update any email addresses and trusted telephone numbers:

Given the age of your iPad2, you need to be aware that the restore process will completely wipe your locally stored data and any installed Apps. Many App Developers have dropped support for older devices and iOS versions preceding iOS11/12/13 - and have withdrawn older versions of their Apps from the Apple App Store. As such, you will have difficulty finding or (re)installing Apps that are compatible with your iPad2. Whilst your iPad is far from useless, this may limit the utility and usefulness of your iPad2.


As such, you may need to consider replacement of your iPad with a newer or current model.

Is this an iPad 2, running iOS 9, as per your tagline? If it is disabled the only method to regain access to it is with recovery mode. That would require that you temporarily connect it to a Mac or PC that has iTunes installed. If you don't have one as you are eluding to in your post, see if you can borrow one from a friend or relative. Alternatively, if you have an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider near you, you can pay them a visit to assist you with this.
