Apple TV 4K sounds gone strange

The sound on my Apple TV has changed. All the voices are muffled now and the background music/sound seems more dominant.

it has been fine for years then I recently moved the Apple TV to a different TV. Now when I’ve moved it back the sound is all off.

I’ve checked settings and I can’t see what would be wrong. Sound is set to Stereo which is what I have. I’ve tried unplugging replugging and doing a hard reset of it.

The sound goes through normal tv speakers nothing fancy.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening and how to fix it?

Does it happen for Apple TV only? Not other devices or cable TV?

Does it happen for all content or some content on Apple TV? Does the app in use matter?

Settings﹥Video and Audio﹥Audio Format would be the first thing to check based on your issue description. But if that is confirmed to be Stereo, then it is something else. Very weird.

So I’ve tried other things. The TV has Netflix built in and that sounds absolutely fine. I’ve also tried Netflix on a PS4 and that also has a problem. They are both plugged in via HDMI using same cable and same port.

the problem only came about when I moved the Apple TV to another TV and then brought it back.

It sounds as though the background music/effects has been turned up and any spoken parts are turned down.
