Apple Watch Bracelet band release button held down but band will not slide

As mentioned above can't get band to slide out any suggestion to help would be appreciated

Apple Watch band won’t release when I push the button I didn’t know about the button on the back of the watch to release the band, so initially I tried to “force” the band out of the slot (which of course didn’t work.)
