Notwithstanding the cautionary tales of iPad2 and its current limitations, if your iPad is disabled, or you have forgotten your iPad passcode, you’ll need to follow this process:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT211078

You’ll need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS).

You’ll also need your AppleID and associated password. If these have also been forgotten, they can be recovered here:

https://iforgot.apple.com

To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to one of the following:

  • Your primary email address mailbox that corresponds with your AppleID
  • Any of the secondary/recovery email addresses that should be configured for your AppleID account
  • Any of the trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or Cellular/Mobile) that are associated with your AppleID

Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.

More information about recovery of your AppleID:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201354

More information about recovery of your AppleID password:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201487

When you recover access to your credentials, you would be well advised to log-in to your AppleID account from a web browser - and verify/update any email addresses and trusted telephone numbers:

I would’ t even bother with this old, over 9-year old iPad, now!

These old 8, 9 and 10-year old iPad models, very soon, will be fully and completely obsolete by the end up 2020.

Here's why.

Tap and read my links below for my additional info about your iPad model.

Just forget about this iPad, already!

It is worth any time or effort to deal with now!

The act of resetting this iPad means it will immediately become a nearly useless device.

Other than a few still iOS 9 and 10 supported third party Web browsers, many, MANY third party apps are simply no longer available to these old 8 and 9-year old iPads now!

And the apps you may have had on that iPad, in the past, will be irretrievable, now!

These old 8 and 9-year iPads are dead, useless and done, now, if no precautions were taken in the past, to do backups/app backups with older versions of iTunes on a Mac or Windows PC.

Your iPad 2 is done!

Time for new, refurbished or much, MUCH “newer” ( read used ) iPad model now!

A LOT has happened with iPad and iOS in the last 9-10 years since that 2011 iPad 2 model!

If you decide to purchase an iPad and must purchase older, used iPad models, DO NOT look at anything older than a 2014 iPad Air 2 or 2015 iPad Mini 4.

Both of these models are the oldest iPad models that the up and coming iPadOS 14 will support, in the Fall of 2020.

If you must purchased used devices from unknown sources, you must ask more questions of the iOS device seller, ask for more photo/images, ask if the iPad has user/iCloud activation lock and ask for photos/images/short video proof, ANY REAL VISUAL PROOF, that such an iPad has been reset to factory settings and shown proof of the iOS device's start up screen showing the animated, moving, multi-language “Hello” Welcome to iPad screen.

If the iOS device seller is unwilling to do all of this to show you that the iPad, in question, is ready to use with no barriers to new user activation and use, pass on the iOS device and look at other iOS device sellers elsewhere.

Sorry & Best of Luck to You!
