Airpods not connecting to macbook pro

I'm trying to pair my airpods to my macbook pro, but i keep getting a message on my macbook saying to enter some sort of 4 digit code? i also see a yellow triangle icon saying "connected" this just starting happening. i also tried reseting it and holding the button on the back.
