I just got my son his first cell phone. I am trying to change the name on there bc we are on a family bundle deal so it always starts off on my uncles name. It does not have the phone symbol next to the name and number like all the others and when I click on my sons number it brings up my uncles to change online. Why is it not working? Is it because the phone is so new?

Then you need to contact AT&T support. They can change it.
Go into Contacts on your phone. find the phone number in Contacts and change the name to your son’s.

Yes. I just tested that by calling my own landline that does not have my name in its directory. I remember asking AT&T to set that up, many years ago. I also asked that they add my wife’s name to her number and my daughter’s to hers.
I am on my account online. Wanting to change the name on the phone that shows up when my son calls from my uncles name to my sons name. I am on my account on-line but I am unable to do so for some reason but it will work for all the other devices.
On my sons phone number on the at&t account...it shows my uncles name. It will show that to everyone he calls instead of his name. I am logged in on my account online. It will not let me change it to his name.

I’m also with AT&T and if I call a landline without my information from my iPhone, only my telephone number appears in the Caller ID.
So I guess AT&T doesn’t have one consistent policy about that. Perhaps it’s regional or dependent on the pre-AT&T history of the regional company.

Would your name appear if you called someone who didn’t have your contact information previously? Would it appear, for example, if you phoned a landline that didn’t have a built-in address book?

What account? Your cellular carrier’s account where this data is registered? Some Apple ID account? Yours? Your son’s? His uncle’s?
Of course, your son requires his own unique Apple ID regardless of his age. And, of course, the iPhone needed to be thoroughly cleansed before he took it over.

When I call a number using my AT&T mobile my name appears as the caller ID to the recipient.
