Not all photos are importing from iPhone X to Fotos on MacOs (10.11.6) via plugged-in USB connection without iCloud

Hi from Germany,

not all of my photos are downloading from iPhone X (iOS 13.5.1) into MacOs Fotos (1.5) on MacOS 10.11.6), only some... can it have to do with the fact, that some are shot in Portrait or landscape mode? Or that I edited them in the camera app of the iPhone before attempting to download them.

I am not using iCloud backup.

When I am using airdrop it works fine, but is is not as convenient as it used to be...

Did not update my MacOS version because I am using Adobe CS6 for which I paid a lot of money and am afraid that newer OS versions will make CS6 unusable since I can not afford a monthly rent with which Adobe is now raking it in ...

Mac mini, OS X 10.11

You may check the setting on your iPhone, if the Camera is set to take the photos in the High Efficiency format. A Mac with with 10.1.6 El Captan cannot open the photos and videos in the HEIF format, see this document:

Using HEIF or HEVC media on Apple devices - Apple Support

If the camera is using the High Efficiency format, you have to options: Either change the camera setting, so the photos will be taken in a more compatible format, or change the settings for the Photos.app in the "download to Mac or PC" section, that the HEIF images will be converted to a more compatible format.
