One way to save money is by buying Apple Certified Refurbished unit at the refurbished-and-clearance store, if available in your area. These units are cosmetically pristine, and have been sent back through the factory acceptance testing. They are indistinguishable from new. Same warranty as new, and they are eligible for AppleCare (highly recommended for every MacBook Pro).
The only complication is that if Dead-On-Arrival (or within the 14-day exchange period), they can NOT be exchanged for new, they must be returned to the refurbished store for a different refurbished unit.
