iPhone 4 vs iPhone 3GS Pictures Size

Hi,

I have both an iPhone 4 and a 3GS. My iPhone 4 has the very same amount of pictures as my 3GS. For some reason, my iPhone 4 shows 863.2 MB of space used by pics. As I said my 3GS has the very same amount of pics but shows 350.5 MB of spcae used by pictures. Both devices are running iOS 4. Any clue as to why there is a difference?

iPhone 3G S 16,32GB/iPhone 4 32GB, Mac OS X (10.6.4), MacBook Pro 15" Core i5 Processor/500GB HD

The iPhone 4 supports higher resolution images due to the retina display. Higher resolution = bigger file size.

I had my suspicions but I was a little confused since they all come from the same library.

iTunes does not sync the picture itself from your library, but rather an optimized image. Since the iPhone 4 has a greater resolution, I assume that the optimized image is larger than the image synced to the 3GS.
